We live in a society that has made „nostalgia“ a marketable commodity in terms of cultural exchange and gives up the notion to live with all one’s soul, with all one’s goodness and righteousness, just to establish and support an ignorant and wasteful way of life. According to this view, a product of mixed culture that can be applied to any cultural, religious and sociological subject, gives eminent energy.

To fulfill that kind of vision, a group of Indian students of the University of Klagenfurt, empowered by the support of the team of the PLUS Platform of Independent Students, initiated the event called INDIA MEETS AUSTRIA (IMA).

The „India meets Austria“- is an international cultural event held between different nations led by Austrians and Indians. The word itself shows an outward impression through which one can feel ebullience, excitement, entertainment and even taste the delicious and delightful spice of cultures coming together. The aim of the event is to promote the cultural exchange and expertise through formal as well as informal interactions among our eminent and distinguished university personnel and international students. It is there to not only help them understand the various contemporary challenges on cultural, corporate and industry level but also to make sustainable relations at a cross-country level. On the same charge this event also takes collaboration to new heights and involves great experiences for everyone involved.

In early December, we came together to celebrate that kind of intercultural event for the second time. Taking place in the aula of the university, the show included several traditional and modern dances, performed by Indian and Austrian students. The happenings on the stage were accompanied by a rich choice of spicy Indian food. The interest in such kind of collaboration between cultures was proven by the big audience, which cheered up after every performance. At the end a speaking choir chanting “India meets Austria” filled the whole room. The evening was finished with the tunes of DJ Head, who combined Indian beats with western smashups.

The event merges different cultures and traditions of different nations especially between Indian and Austrians and depicts the integration between them. It also increases the diversity, includes understanding cultural values and customs other than one’s own and is one of the best ways to broaden everyone’s perspectives. The IMA Event generates a sphere of exchange of everyone’s lifestyle, background, origin, beliefs/values, expressions or laws. Through the act of adding one thing to another the event educates, stimulates, espouses the diversity of people, promotes the fine arts, or lends itself to the broadening of perspectives. With that strong eagerness Indian students at Klagenfurt and with the support of the PLUS come out with a new feel and sense ‘India meets Austria’ with full of style, spirit and spice.
